Fermont, April 7, 2026 – ArcelorMittal Mines and Infrastructure Canada (“ArcelorMittal”) and Fermont Fire Department announced that they have entered into a mutual aid agreement aimed at increasing fire protection and supporting emergency response operations across the territory of Fermont.
This agreement allows Fermont Fire Department to call on members of ArcelorMittal’s brigade, as needed, who are trained to respond in emergency situations and use the company’s specialized equipment. The intervention procedures established between the two organizations aim to ensure effective coordination, smooth communication and safe operations.
This collaboration has already been ongoing in practice for several years and this agreement formalizes its mechanisms. Moreover, this collaboration has been implemented on several occasions, including during wildfire response operations, which provided an opportunity to demonstrate the natural complementarity and effectiveness of the resources deployed.
Through this initiative, the two parties pool their expertise and resources to support a more robust response to incidents requiring rapid intervention, including fires and other types of emergency situations. This agreement reflects a shared objective to improve safety in the territory of Fermont through structured mutual aid.
“This partnership is a testament to our objective to remain strongly anchored in the Fermont community. By sharing our expertise and combining our strengths, we are proud to contribute to improving safety for everyone”, stated Mapi Mobwano, President and CEO.
“This agreement reinforces our ability to keep residents safe. Being able to rely on ArcelorMittal’s support in times of need is a major asset for Fermont. This is an excellent example of collaboration that directly benefits our community”, said Patrick Lacerte, Mayor of Fermont.
