Port-Cartier<\/span>, January 14, 2026<\/strong> \u2013 ArcelorMittal Infrastructure Canada G.P. (\u201cArcelorMittal\u201d) marked the arrival of the first ship of the year at its port facilities in Port-Cartier<\/span> by presenting its traditional steel headed cane to Captain Jiang Zhu, commander of the Panamax MV Hong Jing. This handover symbolizes the arrival of the first ship and the start of a new season of port operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having arrived from Ireland, the ship left ArcelorMittal\u2019s port facilities on January\u00a011 bound for Hansaport, Germany, with a cargo of 78,520\u00a0tonnes of iron ore concentrate. Built in 2008, the ship is 225\u00a0metres long and 32\u00a0metres\u00a0wide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The start of the 2026\u00a0season coincides with remarkable 2025\u00a0results for ArcelorMittal\u2019s port facilities. Iron ore shipments, including concentrate and pellets, reached a record high of 26.2\u00a0million\u00a0tonnes, making 2025 the best year on record, with a historic second quarter in which 7.3\u00a0million tonnes were\u00a0loaded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This strong performance is also reflected in port activity, with 419\u00a0ships passing through and more than 1,000\u00a0entry and exit manoeuvres carried out in\u00a02025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ArcelorMittal\u2019s internationally recognized port in Port-Cartier<\/span> is the largest private seaport in Canada and has been a cornerstone of the region\u2019s heritage for more than 60\u00a0years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
