Creating wealth while respecting the
environment and communities

We are dedicated to producing ever greener iron ore in order to create wealth, while respecting the environment and communities.

That is why we have implemented an environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001, in line with our sustainable development policy.

An external audit process is conducted annually by an independent entity to certify our compliance.

We are also committed to the Mining Association of Canada‘s Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) initiative. Being part of the TSM initiative reflects our own commitment to responsible mining practices in the following areas:

  • Community relations
  • World-class environmental practices
  • Health and safety of staff and neighbouring communities

The towns of Fermont and Port-Cartier, where we operate, are located in the heart of a large, wild natural environment. We are committed to preserving this natural wealth, its biodiversity, and the well-being and health of the people who live there.

Energy transition

To achieve our sustainable development goals, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and our GHG emissions over the next few years.

Ensuring salmon protection on the Nipissis River

Atlantic salmon are abundant in the Nipissis River and their migratory lifestyle causes them to move upriver. Fishways are a means to help them bypass obstacles such as waterfalls and the quality of their design is directly related to the success of the annual salmon migration.

Baie Sainte-Marguerite multi-species reef project

As part of the ten-year dredging program at our Port-Cartier harbour facilities, we wish to establish a habitat reserve to compensate for any damage that may occur during the implementation of the maintenance program at our facilities.

Acting with Rigor and Expertise

At the heart of the region where we operate, environmental protection plays an essential role in how we work.

This video highlights the actions and projects that, over the years, have helped us better manage water, protect and restore habitats, develop environmental infrastructure, and preserve the natural environments around us. These efforts reflect our commitment to reducing our impact and taking a long-term approach to mining development.
